- Gandhiji got nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize five times: in 1937, in 1938, again in 1939, in 1947, and once more in 1948. just a few days before his assassination. However, he never received the award.
- Rabindranath Tagore gave Gandhiji the title of ‘Mahatma’. According to Tagore, during his travels, Gandhi would stop at hut entrances and speak to the locals in their own language. The poet Tagore said Gandhiji all Indians considered him as a member of their own family and thus he got the title of ‘Mahatma.’
- Madurai’s Gandhi Memorial Museum preserves the relics of Mahatma Gandhi.
- When he was in South Africa, Gandhi was a football fanatic. He formed two teams, the Passive Resisters, named after Henry Thoreau and Leo Tolstoy’s writings.
